I was lucky to catch a small pocket of good seeing and transparency just as Jupiter peaked in the sky facing the GRS this morning just after 1am. Best 2000 frame stacks combined in WinJupos using R as the Lum cranked to 149% gamma to help brighten the image with minimal burning. 80fps 60s RG, 45fps 75s B, histograms 65%, gain 2650-2800, resized 125%

Freddy, It's crazy how you can going over a month with poor conditions, then good seeing attacks on multiple nights. Here's an a version with no resizing and some noise reduction applied, after 2hrs of sleep...

Paul, Thanks! And I can thank a boring Monday football game to push me off the couch and get some Jupiter data. The CSC had a small 1 hr window of good seeing and transparency which I caught. As I packed up the clouds were rolling in. This may be about as good my old scope can capture. I've been lucky with the seeing this week, and I hope you get a couple perfect nights during opposition. Take it easy

Super work Steve, glad you are getting some good seeing conditions! And there's nothing to complain about with our C11s, they are fine imaging scopes...

Ah, perfect. Color saturation is fantastic. Just the right level of paleness.
Love it.

Guys, Thanks for the positive feedback! CSC predicted good seeing and weather.com predicted partly cloudy. Maybe the weather channel needs to link into the CSC... Since I am not used to decent Jupiter data, my old processing methods seem harsh, so I went back 1 last time and decided to only derotate and combine RGB in WinJupos (not L) with a 10% gamma boost each channel, then perform a color alignment/RBG balance in Registax6. The max brightness is only 192 but the result is smoother with a more realistic color and that can be repeated vs the random eyeball test.

That looks marvelous Steve, you've always been one of the people I look up to for setting the standard on how well a C11 can capture Jupiter. Of the 3 planets, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn, I believe that Jupiter is the most difficult to render. In addition I love the way you quantify the parameters used to acquire and process planetary images. That offers a great deal of practical help to others in fine tuning the process.

Rik, Pete, I really appreciate your compliments. To avoid reinventing the wheel each time, I wrote down exactly what I did to get this image and it will be my standard Jupiter processing from now on. ========================================================= Flea3 + Astronomik RGB filters + Fire capture All Gains=2700+/-100, Histograms 60-65%, 400x400 ROI R: 80fps, 60sec >> determine best focus for R, then use excel spreadsheet for G=R+20 & B=R-29 offsets G: 80fps, 60sec B: 45fps, 75sec Castrate avi videos AS2! force global 2, best 2000 frames, 60% normalize, 1.5x drizzle, approx 15APs Sharpen in Reg6, all using initial layer=2 (keep totals the same for each channel, just a theory) R: Slider2, 100 G: Slider2, 100 B: Slider2, 50, Slider3, 50 Winjupos, image measurement default settings (P=direction of rotation) using average avi time combine derotated RGB frames 1.1x gamma each Clean up background noise in PS Reg6 for RGB auto color balance & resize Lanzcos back to original image dimension PS to increase black canvas size & apply a slight linear contrast curve with the midpoint 50% of max (do not use PS default, make your own) Add FireCapture frame ========================================================== Comments and improvements are always welcome. I know Emil says that pre-castrating is waste of time, but I've always done it and it's a nice way to keep the final avi on disk.

Here's 1 last image from this set taken, using L-RGB in WinJupos with the L=R but 50% less sharpened in Reg6, Gammas for RGB 1.49, L is default 1.00. Color aligned in Reg6. LRGB does seem to show more detail vs RGB, provided the amount of L contrast is used sparingly.

I like the third one best. But that's just personal taste. Very nice job though. What do you use to frame it so nice with info and stuff? And how?

moxican, Thanks! The framing is done automatically with FireCapture, which you will need to download the freeware,http://firecapture.wonderplanets.de/screenshot.html. Once you open FC, click on "dummy cam", then the square folder icon to get to the session browser. You will need to save your final image as a .jpg before trying to input to the FC web framer. If you don't use FC to capture the data, you will have to enter everything manually, but the final presented image will look the same.
mo, Thanks! I'm moving my data off my laptop to make room. Tonight I'll try my 1.8x or 2x barlow with an extension combo to boost the mag to f26 or f27 and will post if the data is good.
toxman, Thanks! I suspect that sharpening 100% in Registax per channel, with no LR deconvolutions sounds crazy, but it seems to work.
