As I recall not long ago TEC-140s were going for $5,500. I just checked TEC's and OPT's sites and they are now listed at $5,700. David

You might want to see the tread that just stared on the price of glass blanks. I think the answer is there.

What does this mean with previous orders which have already been placed with deposits? I procrastinated ordering a TEC 140 at the $5,200 price 2 years ago. I should have ordered one back then as now premium glass is becoming more scarce. I bit the bullet at $5,500, but it's been a year and still haven't received the scope. I hope I don't get stuck with the higher price for the scope and accessories...

Look at the price of gas and food and you can certainly understand the increase in the cost of the TEC 140. Blueman

It depends on who you ordered it from. TEC will honor the price it was at when the order was placed. I know for a fact that Anacortes will charge you the increased price.

Well I've just ordered one, but I'd expect it at the price it is now. However I can't get Yuri to acknowledge receipt of my deposit so who knows?
I might ask for it back and go buy the Martin guitar I've had my eye on instead

Unfortunate that the price has gone up, but consider that I bought my TEC-140 in 2008 for $5,200. New price is less than a 10% increase after more than 4 years - as said, not TOO bad, considering things like gasoline.

The production of optical glass is very energy intensive, particularly the abnormal dispersion glass which requires extremely long annealing times.
General inflation would bring $5200 to nearly $5600, other factors aside.

I ordered mine directly from Yuri because I like the fact that every time have called TEC, he has personally answered the phone. Besides, one can customize a scope directly from the manufacturer as opposed to going through a dealer and having to deal with a middle man. My turn was supposed to be up in September, it's taking longer than expected - if it means getting quality optics, I don't mind. Hopefully he'll honor the $5,500.
