Hi Folks,
Lots of activity reported on the Sun so I got out the PST and took a look. I'm really rusty--my last H-a sketch was January (yikes!) but it was great to get out in the sunshine on a warm late fall day and observe our nearest star.
Seeing was pretty good and I used the head covering that my daughter-in-law made me which improved the contrast considerably--it was a blindingly clear day.
The sketch was done on black Artagain paper with conte' crayon, conte' pencil, Derwent Graphtint white pencil, charcoal pencil, and various erasers.
Notes are with the drawing.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Michael, you trying to scare us with the tiny blue Earth to scale? I get the feeling the prominence you show would just incinerate lil ole Terra - with me on it. Maybe you could put it at a safer distance?
Thank you for sharing your observation. It must have been beautiful. That's what draws us to observing and sketching in the first place. I don't follow the sun, so all I can do is appreciate your work.

Michael.
Lot of effort in your sketch. It looks 3D for sure. Nice one. And you are right, there was lot of action today.

Thanks for the comments, everyone. Sorry to take so long to acknowledge them but family holiday obligations come first as I'm sure you understand.
It is quite humbling when one gets a perspective on our planet compared to the nearest star, isn't it?

Michael,
Fine detailed work. I love the 'pale blue dot' and to think we all live there is quite humbling.

Thank you, Mel. Yes, when I looked at the finished sketch with the little blue dot I had a Carl Sagan moment.
