STF 52       #5533148 - 11/21/12 11:42 PM Edit   Reply   Quote Quick Reply   This evening I was observing some doubles in Andromeda and STF 52 was on my list. The stars that form STF 52 are separated by 1.4" and the seeing was rather bad. I was not holding out much hope that I would be able to split this pair. However, at 333x with my 8" EdgeHD, I was able to split STF 52. During brief periods of steady seeing I could see two perfect orbs separated by just a slither of black sky. Might should try that one, too. Any color? Last night the moon was making star hopping to doubles rather difficult. Took a while to find HIP 114, then failed to split it. Maybe it wasn't the right star, maybe the companion is too dim for moon lit skies, or maybe it was just too tight. But the magnification was near 333x so the yellow tint may have been influenced by the dimming light. I stopped star hopping about a year and a half ago when I wanted to observe doubles that were located further away from the few bright stars that I can see. My area is very light polluted.
