Wow what a difference from previous years.
Below is what will be the central panel in this years master works project of M42 and surrounding area.
This is the first time I have been able to capture the dusty "finger" to the left of M42, and also the first time I have been able to see how the dust between the trap and the running man is being lit from underneath by the trap stars.
I am planning on getting the surrounding areas to mosiac into one big image, then I'm going to see how it looks on a big mettalic print for framing.
M42 and running man
32 exposures, 6min @ ISO 1600 + 12 exposures 30 sec @ ISO 1600 + 12 exposures 15 sec @ ISO 800 for core.
Imaging camera = Canon 450D xsi full spectrum mod with Astronomik CL-CCD clip in filter
Imaging scope = Orion 80ED riding the CGEM mount
Guide cam = Meade DSI I
Guide scope = Celestron C8
Image focus and aquisition = Backyard EOS
Guided with PHD
Stacked in DSS
Processed with PS CS5, Noels actions, Star spikes pro
Link to larger = LARGER

Fantastic job! Great processing on both the core and the faint dusty areas. Very well balanced.

Howdy, that is one beautiful image. I can't believe how much detail you've pulled out of the running man area. Good luck on the metallic print. I've seen them advertised and they look cool in the ads but never have seen one up close and personal.

That's pretty amazing shot and nicely framed with the running man on top.
Rush, NY huh....that where I did my first really good stargazing from my back yard on Pinnacle road. Have my first C8 in the 1980's:)

Wow that is amazing. Great job! I can't wait for M42 to clear the trees a little earlier so I can have my first real attempt at it.

A beautiful rendition of a beautiful region! As far as I can tell, you used the 80ED at full focal length...no FF/FR? You sure got nice stars, even in the corners. I don't think my 80ED does that well. Nice work!
