I got a really late start last night, so I went for any easy target. 22x90 at ISO800 on the Tak. I also shot some 15 and 30 second subs, but I after I threw this together, I decided I liked it. Two minutes processing. A quick DDP, noise reduction and saturation in Nebulosity.

Wow. I like it too Eric.

Great capture and well worth the 2minutes of processing

The colours are great.

Darren

Very nice!

I think though that you darkened the background a little bit too much. There are a few areas that look a bit too dark. On the other hand, star shapes and detail in the nebula are simply splendid.

Well done!

Wouter.

I'm guessing they were satellites. I've shot Orion a couple of times and something is always passing through. Again, in the spirit of not wanting to spend more than 120 seconds processing, I didn't go looking through the subs for them.

As for the black point, I didn't touch it. These were only 90 second exposures aimed at my darkest horizon. I think black was just black all by itself. Maybe the DDP function does something to it, but I just accepted the defaults and used the slider to dial up the nebula, which should have brightened the background, if anything.

"Good enough" is my favorite yardstick when it comes to my hobbies. Save perfection for the stuff you get paid for, IMO.

Very nice shot! The trails are most likely geostationary satellites, M42 passes behind a large number of them as seen from most locations.

Now if you were to take some of those 15sec frames and layer them on top you could really increase the detail in the core, but I understand your desire to limit your processing time.
