Hi, this is Bambi vs. Godzilla ;-) Pics just can´t show you how big this 12" is. It looks pretty much like an oil drum. The mirror + holder alone is heavier than Bambi, an 8" f/6 scope. I´m not sure anymore that I want to mount this heavy thing on my eq-6. It seems this time I´ve gone too far. But I like it (her? him?) already. This thing on my little balcony is a challenge for sure.
BTW: the PDS has a welded tube, not a seamed one.

Nice telescope, that looks impressive! You mentioned that you weren't sure if you wanted to put your scope back onto an eq-6. What about making altitude bearings and a Dob mount? That could be an easier option. What is the f/ number on it?

My 8" f/6 sonotube scope (9.5" overall diameter) is about the limit for my EQ6. A 12" will be too much for it.

hi all + thanks for your replies.
the 300 pds has a focal ratio of f/5. i will give it a try and mount it on my eq-6. therefore i´ve ordered a losmandy saddle. the pds was delivered with a nice losmandy plate.
btw the sonotube 8"f/6. rides quite nicely on my eq-5. total weight is 10 kgs with tube rings. it has a very nice and smooth kineoptics hc-1 focuser.

setup on eq-6 without mirror assembly. the silver thingy under the ota is the first of the tube liners i will put -inside- the tube. the liner is made from 4mm styrofoam to get rid of the thermal mass of the steel tube. i´ll glue in old wiper blades inside on the other side of the drawtube as secondary baffles. vignetting is no problem since i will use this scope only for visual planetary observation.
even without the mirror this thing is very heavy to put it on the mount with one person.

it works!
for visual it works better than i thought. focussing is not so bad with the fine focusser. dampening time is about 2 seconds.
this is a shortened skywatcher pier/tripod. shortening the pier as low as possible makes life a lot easier.

Impressive!
I had the 10" (254 mm) Skywatcher. Tricked out with rotating rings it was 45 lb. (20 kg). A Skywatcher EQ6 Pro handled it impressively.
I'm sure the 12" (300 mm) Skywatcher OTA weighs significantly more than the 254mm- but I wouldn't count the EQ6 out, especially if you can keep the weight of accessories down.

here is the cooler made from a kitchen bowl with 120mm ultra kaze cooler. 133cfm at 3000rpm. new barbell weights.
