If a post like this is not okay, please let me know.
A few months ago, I purchased a Tasco 9te-0 to go stargazing with my son from a Goodwill. Unfortunately, I didn't know enough about them to realize that a couple important pieces were missing (namely, the portion of the yoke that the legs attach to, and the eyepiece for the finder). Additionally, the manual states (and pictures I've found confirm) that it is supposed to come with a 1.5X extender eyepiece, but I have a 2X Barlow lens. Attached are pictures.
The reason I purchased this from Goodwill is that I'm unemployed (and thus, don't really have any money). Try as I might, I cannot seem to find the pieces I need at a price I can afford. As such, I'd much rather this go to someone who has the resources and/or time to complete and use this, and I could use the money to purchase a telescope that we can use.
What would be the best avenue to get this out there? Should I just throw it up on Ebay or Craigslist? Is there a specific forum on the site that I should use? I don't want to be so crass as to just ask people to PM me, or is that accepted practice?
Any help would be highly appreciated.

Hello Figaro, and welcome to Cloudy Nights! I think it would be difficult to sell as is, except for parts for someone looking to complete another scope. You could try posting an ad in "Classifieds" on this website. Don't ever use the sun filter, as they have been known to crack when in use and can cause eye damage.

Figaro; yeah if you are thinking about asking people to pm you concerning selling it, you should do that over in the S and S forums.

I could send you a finder. If you could locate the tripod head, you would be in business. I don't think the 1.5 vs. 2 extender will matter...

It might be fairly easy to locate a tripod with the head and fork yoke included for very little money (if I had one, I'd give it to you). Then, besides a finder, all you really need is a lower power eyepiece. Like 23mm or even 40mm for wide viewing (and bigger field).

Glad to see people pitch in, I don't have a tripod head that will work. A nice 25, 30 or 40mm Kellner eyepiece would work great! The 30mm Celestron one has about the widest field in a 0.965 barrel. It's decent piece of glass too. We need a "parts scopes" sticky.

Hello and welcome,
I have a Tasco 12te that I would be happy to share the alt/az yoke mount and wooden legs with you. Oh, what the heck you can have the somewhat beaten up wooden case too! The Tasco 9te-0 at 710mm fl (as I recall) from Gary Barabino (and the enigmatic John Siple) is a rarity. I might be able to find a 20mm eyepiece to throw in as well. P.M. me your address and what you would like that I've got and it is yours.
Gary B. You are the Tasco authority. Don't you think the 9te-0 OTA would fit just fine on the 12-te mount? Thanks!

Looks to me as if the OP has already decided to sell it. Or at least try at that price.

Hi other Keith and Figaro!
The only difference between the 12TE(60mm- 800mm f/l) and 9TE-0(60mm- 710mm) and 9TE-5(60mm- 700mm) is optical. The alt-azimuth mounts have altitude adjusters and are all the same except that the 12TE has an alt-azimuth flex cable, and the 9TE-0 would fit in to that cradle .His fork mount problems will be solved .Actually the 12TE mount and tripod would be a better set up for his scope because the legs are probably more stable. Hope he reconsiders his decision and keep the scope. Clear Skies,Gary

Sean,
Good news to hear you are keeping the 9te-0
I just finished cleaning up the mount of old-grease-becomes-glue substance. Gotta love Goo-Gone! I'm drying everything in the oven after washing and will reassemble with fresh grease before I send it off.

Looks almost done... Wow, I should clean my oven one of the days, huh?

I don't have any parts to give but *love* watching unsuspecting inquirers become fully outfitted here on Cloudy Nights Classics! Makes my heart glow, especially for someone who wants to go stargazing with his son.
