To the moderator: This is a duplicate post as one in the Lunar forum. I hope this is OK since this new atlas fits in both Lunar and Media forums. If this has to be removed maybe you could leave a pointer to the Lunar post. Thanks!
Hi all
Has anyone heard about this new atlas from Charles Wood and Maurice Collins? At first I looked the page over to make sure this wasn't an April fools joke.
Here is the information page at LPOD for the 21st Century Atlas of the Moon. I mean it has to be good right with Mr. Wood's insight on lunar formations, etc. And the price looks right too, $29.95. It says it will ship December 8, 2012.
Check out the page and see if you think the atlas covers the whole lunar nearside or is it just specialized areas and the nearside is not covered? (see contents page)

The sample pages look good. I am curious who is the publisher is. Not sure how much use it would be at the eyepiece though. But still an interesting work though.

No publisher listed, and the purchase link shoots straight to PayPal. There's no listing for the book on Amazon (that I can find). Some form of self publishing? Which would be fine by me, since that's how my own books come out.

Hi Tom, Preston
I asked the question on the LPOD forum of Mr. Wood here about availability from Amazon. Of course costs and profitability were considerations. I had a Amazon gift card balance and thought I had found a Christmas gift for me! Oh well I think I'll invest in this one anyway.

I just ordered-I have been impressed by C Woods books/S&T articles, so I think worth the gamble ($35 book and shipping )

This is the one to get if you can find it reasonably:
Rukl Moon Atlas
It's been out of print for a while.
1st or 2nd editions both good, though 2nd edition easier to use in your lap.
It's being printed again in German. No word on English version.

I have the Rukl atlas and it is nice and can be at times hard to find. However with the advancement of the some of the Apps and mapping software, I don't know if I would say the Rukl atlas is the end all be all. Sure it is nice, but there are other choices out there that work probably equally as well. I find photographs work well when observing the Moon for me.

Sold out? I hope not. Mr. Wood didn't mention that in the blog link. I ordered one this morning. It will make a fine companion to my Cambridge Photographic Moon Atlas.

This LPOD link is stating that it is already sold out. I think a reprinting is only a matter of a short time.
