Well, Christmas is coming. Walked into S&S Optica (again); and she was still setting there on display. I had been looking at her for awhile. Broke down and ordered it yesterday. Should be ready for pickup next Wednesday (delay due to holiday). Now I get the whole new thrill of buying a 2" diagonal, mount motors down the road, polar scope, power tank, etc....not to mention the views. Truthfully, after this, I'll pretty much be done with equipment purchases outside of collecting all the original Nagler T1s (don't know why, just an itch).

While I don't plan on doing any serious AP with it, is there a cheaper camera and software program I could use to take/stack short time-exposure pictures with? Nothing serious, just to make some screen savers for my computer of the moon, planets, maybe some of the brighter DSOs. I realize the CG4 mount with this scope will not give me Hubble views or even time exposures past 30 or 40 seconds.

You're going to love that scope! My Omni 102 is my most used scope and it constantly surprises me. Looking forward to your first light report.

I'm planning on getting the Omni 120 with my tax refund. From what I've been told in my advice thread, the Orion 16" pillar extension will work with the Omni and increases the stability to a startling degree.

With the Synta optics reportedly of very good quality, it stands to reason that the CG-4 GEM I ordered should be too, and given this review, and those of others, I can't wait...
http://www.chuckhawks.com/celestron_CG4.htm
I just wish I had ordered the mount in combination with the 150R refractor, and before I bought the Orion "StarBlast 6" a few months ago, even if I did get it as a "grab-n-go".

Hmmmm.... Where have I heard this before? Oh yeah, from me!
Congratulations on the new scope! It sure seems like a nice one. I hope you have many clear skies and write many happy field reports for us.

I plan to someday get the XLT 120...................have really wanted to get that scope pretty much since I started, but can't for awhile, if ever.

Congrats - I'm just completing something similar and had a very abbreviated 1st light last night. I've wanted a good 4" refractor since I was a teenager - and finally now have one.
I think we'll both have a lot of fun with these scopes. Enjoy!

This is a terrific 4" refractor that is very versatile. It has become my favorite all-time grab-an-go DSO scope.
Shows DSO's in a nice clear high contrast view, and can be pushed. M-42 from a dark site is an eye opener, that really surprised me the detail seen in a 4" scope. Hey, it's a refractor.
Planning on doing a special Galaxy Log video (series) using just this 4" refractor.
You should be quite pleased with this scope.

csrlice12 you will love this scope. I will never get rid of my C4-R. galaxyman love your vids. Can't wait for the 4" frac version. I've caught a few in my C4-R, m81-82,ngc404,ngc253,m33. M31 in my 2",38mm,70* ep is priceless.

Congrats on a great scope!
I owned one a few years ago and it was a very good achromat. I eventually upgraded the focuser to a MoonLite, but the optics were good from the start.
Enjoy!

Know what you mean there; took us from 1978-2002 to get my wife's service connected disability. From 1978-2002, she got a Navy "Retirement" check for $250 BEFORE TAXES. Finally, in 2002 we got her rated at 100% thru the VA. AND we have been fighting them ever since to get them to backdate it to her medical discharge date of 1978, they only consider it back to 2002.

It's supposed to be ready to pickup (S&S Optica is putting it together for me, comes with the cost.) Really looking forward to it as my GrabnGo...Got so excited, went to the classifieds and sunk some more money--got an 11mmT1 Nagler to add to my collection for a price too reasonalble to pass up. This gives me the 13 and 11mm T1s; hope to add the 7 and 4.8mm smooth sides in the near future and have the whole set (just an itch I have, maybe flea investation from hanging around CN ).
