Hi all,
made the trek via car to Cairns from South Australia for the TSE on 14 November 2012. Was once again a cloud filled event and that is number 3 now with cloud. Just at the last moment though the cloud parted and we witnessed the greatest show once again.
Click here for the larger image.
Loops can be seen in the corona and this closely corresponds to the prominences present.
Feel free to comment of give criticism.

Beautiful image Paul! I'm glad the clouds cleared!
Seeing a total eclipse is still something I haven't checked off my list, but in less then four years there will be a full solar eclipse right over my house (what are the odds right?) I hope when that day comes I'll be able to get something even half this cool.

Fantastic image, I was able to watch the live feed over the internet. Your description says a composite of 35 images, 35 images of differing exposures and the combined HDR fashion?
regards,
Jim

Thanks all for the comments.
Brad I have to wait another 18 years before another eclipse is in my local area and even that is an 8 hour drive. I am planning on being in Wyoming for the 2017 eclipse and then spend a month or so travelling around your country.
Jim I used a program (Fitsworks)that adds each image to the former to give a true dynamic range. Interestingly high cloud interferred just a little to prevent detail being seen on the surface of the moon. So yes HDR processing will work but not quite as nicely as the above program.

Superb image, Paul.
I met a fellow who traveled to Arizona for our annular eclipse back in May. He lives in Ohio. I guess a couple years earlier, he traveled to Germany to photograph an eclipse only to be rained out... He said to himself, where can I capture an eclipse where it is not likely going to rain? Viola'. Arizona!
By the way, part of Wyoming are known for constant winds across the prairie, like Cheyenne. It is always something with Mother Nature.
