Hi,
last weekend I was in Southern France again; Unfortunately not longer than 4 days. We only had one really good night but is was a fruitfull one. And quite cold so I could cool the camera to -30°C. Unfortunately that also means I need to make new darks. Something that hopefully will happen one of the coming weeks if temperatures drop low enough over here.
Anyway. Despite the lack of proper darks i couldn't resist working on one of the images I made over there. As usual it was shot with my tiny Tak on the slightly overkill G11 mount and the ST2000XM with baader H-alpha filter.
Total exposure time was 1hr consisting of 12 5minute subs.
Instead of working on this image the regular way i decided to process it as a negative. I find it worked out quite well that way.
Enjoy,
Wouter.

Interesting. Don't often see inverted nebulae.
Took a look through your gallery. Some very nice b/w work. How do you like the kai-2020 chip? Does it respond well to binning 2x2?

Hi,
Thanks for the kind words!
Mike, I'm quite happy with the KAI2020. Only wish it was bigger Now I have no experience how it responds to binning as I have a pixel scale of 4"/pixel in 1x1.
Kind regards,
Wouter.

Inverted images usually do show more detail. Perhaps one of our eye doctors will come across this thread and comment on why we se better at black on white vs. the opposite.

It looks like the extracted luminance frame from PixInsight.

Very nice Wouter -
To me it almost looks like an image taken through a microscope rather than a telescope. Interesting-
Good job - Ralph
