Of course I got it set up just in time for the sunset, but at least I got some pretty pictures. It's arrived with a new Sky Guy Porta II on wooden legs. Looks like it will be a nice sturdy unit.
Hopefully I'll get a chance to do a little sun watching tomorrow. I need to convert my Baader zoom back to a 1 1/4" barrel tonight. Also, I think I'll read the manual.
Here it is:

Looks nice! be sure to position the blocking filter out of the drawtube about one to one an a half inches so you can achieve focus.

I think the most common mistake on a new lunt is not pulling the blocking filter out. Loosen the 2 screws right after your focuser and let the blocking filter slide back an inch or 2.
Oh, and make sure you remove the lens cap, i've had that problem more than I'd like to admit to.
I love my lunt LS60, i'm sure you'll be very happy with yours.
Clear skies, Jim

Thanks, Jim. The position of the blocking filter seems to be a common mistake.

Les,
Oh yeah, we're screwed! Too much new astro gear here in Indiana. I'm hoping for at least a sucker hole or two today.

First Light!
Windy, cloudy with sucker holes still plugged by high, thin clouds. Hey, there's shadows on the ground, had to look.
Surface detail sucks, but nice prominences at 2,3,5,6 and 7 o'clock. The ones at 5 and 6 o'clock are very nice!
I think I'm gonna like this. I really need my binoviewer (on the way from Denk) which will make this much easier. I also need to make a cardboard sunblock to mount on the tube.

Start saving up for the doubler piece. Once you install that, you'll never take it off. It makes that much difference. Congrats on your new scope!

Also called a double stack, it reduces the bandpass to 5 angstroms.

Actually you're off by a factor of 10. It reduces it to 0.5 angstrom (0.05nm) or less.

Dang those decimal points. You are correct, thank you. You can write that mistake off to a solar newbie.
