Just spent some time watching Io pass in front of Jupiter. That's a first for me. Had to call it a night before it was done but there will be other nights. I have to get up early. Clear skies to all and to all a good night.

Yep my bad ( Io ), well it was after midnight. I'm hoping for clear skies tonight. Might get a few hours of viewing before the moon comes up. Clear skies...

It's pretty amazing to be able to watch such an event in real time. I watched as Io approached the moon and then crossed over the limb around 930 central time. I thought it was cool how I could still see the moon after it crossed in front of the planet. I packed up shortly after it crossed over.

Where you seeing the shadow or the actual satellite? The shadow is a black disc while the satellite will appear a pale cream colour. Either way, nice. The first time for any observation is special.

Well thank you Bill, I wasn't sure and I hoped someone would enlighten me. It appears I must of been looking at the shadow. Yes it was a black disk. Know I know what to look for and what I'm looking at. Thank you very much. And yes, it did seem special.

Where did my sense of humour go. He will be sadly missed by stargazers around the globe.
