Nice images, Gentlemen.
I took 5 images from the earlier session and made an animation. Not only is Ganymede making a transit, Europa is at its max elongation and making a direction change from our perspective. Callisto is emerging from Jupiter's shadow.
Widefield Animation of Jupiter and Moons
You can visit Astrobin for the GIF. Thanks.
Paul
BTW: does anyone think the faint object moving between Io and Europa is anything other than an artifact? Starry Night did not show a smaller moon in that position. And it seems to follow an orbital path...not of a Jovian moon though...more like a comet. But, I don't think it is a comet. Weird?

Really nice going to all, and Brian that TEC 140, I've been hoping that somebody would post a really nice image from that scope some day, and that day is here, very nice!

Hi Paul, nice, and I looked at the GIF, I was at first thrilled at the angle it was coming in, but then I thought that perhaps it's a hot pixel (my cameras have a number of those), the orbital path being the periodic error of your mount?

I was thinking along those same lines, Jason. I have had some hot pixels showing up, especially at higher gain settings. The artifact is noticeable in red channel.

Thanks zA, Paul & Paul, and Jason I promised myself that after opposition and before Jupiter started shrinking that I would do some imaging with the 5.5", it's a lot of fun! And here is a link to an animation I made using 20 images from the 13th, sorry it gets twitchy in the middle but I had a 16 minute break that broke my stride...

My "Jupiter campaign" was just too demanding with only one scope unfortunately Brian.....and I'm still processing stuff from them 5 days after we got back - hope to post a compilation of all the good images/animations in a few days but for sure I'll do some 5" imaging on Saturn, the season of which starts very soon down here..!

Hi Paul, I used to crop the hot pixel trails out when possible so that I didn't have to push the black down too much or copy paste unnatural blocks of space that can be seen because their noise/gradients don't match, but I really like a bigger outer space as a backdrop, so I finally recently started using the clone tool with a small draw tip sampling the very nearby background space, which will pretty much match any background gradient, for very natural erasing of hot pixel trails no matter how long they are. If you or anyone have any questions about that, you can PM me.

This is only my second attempt with this camera, and fourth overall, so I'm at the very beginning of planetary photography.
I used: 150/750 Newtonian scope, 2x No Name Barlow, DMK21.AU04.AS camera, Registax6 for processing.
Aditional data: Night of 12.17.2012, GRS visible, Visible Moons Io and Europa
