Though the going price fluctuates, "Visual Astronomy of the Deep Sky" by Roger N. Clark often can not be had for less than $100. I sold mine on Astromart a couple of years ago for close to $200. on Auction. I thought I'd point out that there are numerous copies on sale at Amazon for less than $50. now. The cheapest is $37. I've never seen it that low. If you've been holding out, now is a good time.
Though some aspects of the book are much better than others, his discussion of optimum detection magnifications is seminal.

I found his website. All of the salient points in that book seem to be there, free for the taking.

Here is Roger Clark's webpage on his book: http://www.clarkvision.com/visastro/index.html
and his home page: www.clarkvision.com -- his photography is great.

I just picked up this book at my local lib by chance. After flipping a few pages, I was just totally captured by its philosophy on the value of visual work. It is a great guide for people are interesting in visual and sketching. On thing that hits me in the book was that he mention our eye response to different details as we use different mag. to view the object. It was so true to what I learned recently by sitting in a Computer Vision class.
... and my take-away lesson is: need to buy more EP.

... and its used price at Amazon now became $150.
Never seen a better investment like this for people who pick it up with $50.

Sold mine on Astromart for $275 and then found one at a Goodwill for $2. I still have that one.

After reading this thread a couple of days ago, I checked on bookfinder.com. The least expensive available anywhere was $150! It would seem that the renewed interest generated by this discussion, coupled with the searches that followed, temporarily bumped the prices on the open market. Checked again today, and the price is a more realistic $50 new. I just picked one up at that price.

It's well worth $50. Don't think I'd pay $150 for it though.

I wish I could find a copy of "Atlas of the Lunar Terminator" that cheaply (under $50).
On the other hand, after literally complaining to myself for years about the high price of Byrne's "Lunar Orbiter Photographic Atlas of the Near Side of the Moon" (usually around $80 - 100 in paperback), I stumbled on a hardcover copy for $49 that is essentially new. I rarely see this book in hardcover at any price.
How many of you out there have one or more astro books that you would buy if the price would just drop a bit?

Something similar:
New Atlas of the Moon
It's currently out of print. A wonderful book of the lunar terminator for the entire lunar cycle.

I think the only book I lack is a new copy of, is this.
I seem to remember the price at around $75 when published, which I thought too much at the time.
