Hi,
I took a look at the latest activity on the Sun today and came up with this sketch. I made a 4" template on Strathmore paper and used solar projection to locate and trace the position of the sunspot groups on the solar disk.
Then I put a Baader Astrosolar film filter on the objective, increased the magnification, and drew in the details I could see. The Sun was pretty low and the seeing was just fair, but the spots were big enough to allow me to see at least some detail, even though I usually try to use more magnification than 60x.
I used 2B, HB, and 6B graphite pencils, my finger, and a blending stump. The sketched was flipped after scanning.
The Sun has been so quiet that I haven't done one of these in a long time. Hope you like it.

Michael,
It looks very nice. I have not pointed a telescope at the sun in a long while but I do enjoy looking at the solar sketches by you and other solar sketchers here and visit the SOHO and Space Weather sites each day.

Michael,
Very nice and literal view of the sun. I like your technique.

Michael, yes, thanks for posting your observation. I am not a solar observer, but do take an interest in other's work. I wish I were knowledgeable enough to engage you in discussion on your observation. I am not, so I just look and appreciate it.

Thanks, folks. Those AR's have already changed in appearance--that's why the Daystar is so neat to observe.
