I have seen this scope only one time in germany in the last 10 years ! Today the scope arrived and I was very surprised about the big size of the mount ! In the discussion-link on top we got a few infos from Galakuma, but today as I saw the mount in real life, it was a big surprise to see its size. It's much bigger than I thought ! The scope is a 153/1300 mm catadiopt, and allthough a Cat, it is a very well built telescope on high craftmanship-level - no cheap trash ! The mount is bigger than a EQ5, the tripod very sturdy, and a nice thing is the rightangle finder in 6x30 with crosshairs. I'm a bit irritated if this is really a classic : the german manual is from 1993 - the english manual is from 1984 ! On Galakumas nice web-page is a Towa catalog from 1995 there this scope is pictured as model Towa CT-70 ! For me most intersting is the mount. It has a few similarities with the Vixen New Polaris but it's much bigger ! Overall a surprislingly high-level catadiopt ! Lets see pictures ! You have only to unsrew the 0,96" EP-adaptor and then you get a barrel for 1,25" size EP's ! The OTA itself bears a close resemblance to a couple of telescopes marketed in the United States under the Spectrum I and Tanzutsu names. They also were produced by Towa. But those I ha e seen were either 76mm or 114mm - both with the optical window. I believe they're referred to as being of "Bird-Jones" design. While called catadioptic, the glass is not actually a corrector. It is flat glass. I believe there is a lens in the focuser. You are right about the mount, though. It is very heavy. Here are a few more pics - at first a better picture for size comparison. I have put out my Celestron CAM Goto and pictured it side by side with the Danubia RET70 mount. You can see, that the Danubia mount is same size. Sturdiness is on GP-level too ! But I guess an EQ2 motor will fit, the motor that is pictured in the manual looks identy to the Tasco motor that was fitted with Tasco 10k or 11 T... SYW's telescope was combinned the parts of orijinal design and the parts of the other company. There were some types also by the same model name. The Kenko (??) mount has 30 mm shafts, but is indeed of nice craftmanship quality !
