From the time the glass was sent out to the coaters until my scope was assembled and shipped to me -- about 4 weeks.

You're going to love it!

Thanks to everyone here that helped me on the mount decision. After flip flopping between a 900, then a 1600, looked at a couple of used 1200s, I have come full circle and have just placed a order for a 900GTO.

It and the 175EDF should both ship next week, making it an early Christmas at my house!

I talked to Roland about the AP175 at ASAE. He said he can make 5 AP130 EDFGTs in the time it takes to make one AP175. Those things are going at quite a discount in that case, then.

I hope to have a chance to look through one someday.

Jupiter is really quite impressive in the AP 175.

One early morning at the Black Forest Star Party a few months ago, M42 looked stunning through it too (the outer nebulousity looked smokey).

You will definitely enjoy this telescope.

With my 175 last September observing the Milky Way in Scutum and Sagittarius, I was totally impressed, and surprised, with how well Barnard dark nebula looked -- outlined to the degree that they took on a 3-D appearance. I've not seen that before with my larger Dob's. The contrast is phenomenal! A Barnard through a Dob looks like a flat hole in the MW, but the 175 showed it as a rich three-dimensional object -- it had shape.

Peter, that's the impression I had of the area between M42 & M43 with the AP175.

Roland was originally scheduled to finish the 175 run by end of October. I wonder what scope number he's up to by now. Any recent 175 recipients wish to report their 175 serial number? The latest one I know about is #27 (September delivery).

Mine is #27, was delivered in October. Keep in mind that the scopes aren't necessarily finished and shipped in serial number order (learned that during the 10" Mak production run).

Not sure about the final total number, since Roland NEVER releases such, but from some conversations with whom I will not discuss either, the number of 175EDF scopes which will be made is just over 50. According to Marj, this 175 production will use up virtually all the large glass which has been sitting around for years. Once the 175EDF's are done, they are done.

Not starting speculation, but Roland is looking at land on the Big island for an observatory. He just spent 10 days there. HMMMMMMMM.....

i think they like to go there often. several months ago on the ap-ug yahoo group he and marj discussed their hopes for the future. didn't sound like retirement was too immenent, but they are obviously putting more thought into it.

Roland describes himself as retired as he wants to be, now. In his words, "And finally one day, I'll just go thump." Accompanied with a falling arm from the elbow gesture and a smile.

Yeah, but they were discussing that about 8 months ago as well as discussing renting it out complete with observatory with a couple of scopes. From the sounds of it, they are still looking around.

As to the 175's, soon I hope! Last I heard there is a group back from the coaters and Roland is currently finishing the next (possibly final?!?) group of lenses before shipping to the coaters. Once they are sent off he will be putting together the ones that are already coated and ready to go into the OTAs, testing and shipping. It should be happening soon, but how soon is soon?
