It would carry at most a C9.25 I know Rob Miller Tri36L costs not much more and is rated 200+ lb while the Uni 8 is only rated 110 lb. But... the Uni 8 is wood and I assume more resistant to dings. And it collapses down to 2' long. Any Berlebach Units users can comment? I don't want to spend a lot on the mount and end up with a shaky tripod... So it is bulky, and at that point the Rob Miller Tri36L (which also has non-collapsible legs) becomes a more attractive alternative. One negative about Uni series is, the stance is not wide. It is easy to tip the tripod with a 3" refractor on Teegul mount. Planet has a wider stance and is more suitable for Medium duty GEMs like Mach1 GTO. From what I saw at some events with our astronomy club, it worked fine with the Mach 1. Lighter than a Planet, but probably a bit more substantial than a UNI. The Lapides spreader was $650 new, and add to the price of the Baader tripod, used examples still command $800 to $1000. There is one right now on the other site for $1000. Given that a Rob Miller Tri36L is only $600 without the levelers (which the Berlebachs and Baader don't have anyway)... the AP/Lapides tripod is not good bang for the buck unless you really like wood.
