Take a guess - Or Edmund 3001
      #5556236 - 12/05/12 07:16 PM Attachment (34 downloads)

Not really in buying mode lately as I have been perfecting ( ) what I have that needs it. But when something exceptional pops up I'll take a look. There should be at least one here who can tell what this is by just looking at the original packaging. Three boxes from the first half of the 80's. I don't think many scope packages from this time period came in three fairly large parcels. Should be easy.

One hint that will probably give it away.

Looks like a Edmund, same packaging material (red tube?). What does the term "buying mode" exactly mean??????

Not actively seeking any particular telescope. Was it really the packaging or the fact you tried to trade a couple of fishing poles for it? Cheater! Everyone else,( only Ducky I guess ) this came with it as a spare.

Gregg,

I'd love to play but I'm just catching up on the 50's and 60's. I'll need a little time.

OK three cardboard boxes on a bed with a knotty pine wall behind them

the blue packing reminds me of early Vixen

My guess is either Schrödinger's cat or a nicely packed Unitron

That would be a couch.

What has happenned to Cloudy Nights? In the old days at least one person would have enlarged those pictures and had seen the model numbers on two of the boxes and with a quick search found the answer. Or even remembered a post from earlier this year that described the three boxes. We are all getting older I guess.

Close enough for me, someone is paying attention. It is the 3001 6" model though. I imagine the 8" also came in three similiar boxes. I am glad it is the 6" for two reasons. It has been said here that the 6" model is rarer as there was far fewer of them sold. And more importantly for me anyway is the fact that this fork mount is heavy! Can anyone comment on the weight of the 8" model? This particular scope not only still has it's original packaging but according to the seller who it was given to by an elderly father looks and was used very little. I have a soft spot for anything Edmund and have always liked the looks of these fork mounted reflectors not to mention they seem to have killer optics. It came with a few extras which unfortunately will be duplicates or even triplicates in a couple of items and even with it's great condition and being stored in it's original boxes was missing one thing. Wouldn't take a guessing game to figure out it is missing the seemingly ( for me anyways ) always misplaced manual. Thanks to an excellent tutorial with pictures in a previous thread that I bet has more info than the manual anyways I am in business.
