Hello,
A couple days ago I received a pair of Denk standards for a very reasonable price, $350 shipped, and the understanding that it would come without accessories (other than corrector and nosepiece). When they arrived I opened up the package to realize that the seller included a pair of 18mm Tak LE's!! I thought to myself, this has to be a mistake, and sent the seller an email telling him what happened. The seller replies back with simply "I did not need them. Merry Christmas"!!! I am still floored days later, and it is also probably the sole reason Los Angeles has been getting clouds/rain the past week or so.
Anyways, I can't wait to try them out! And now it's question of if my 17mm Sterlings are the better bino pair or the Taks. I would hate to find that the Sterlings are the better bino pair!

Amazing generosity. Can you give me his number, I'll see if he wants to sell anything else.

Hey, ya- you first... right after ME!
What an outstanding act of generosity! Wouldn't term it "luck" at all... dude, that was deliberate & noteworthy!
Now, if you find your Sterlings outgun those give-away 18mm dust-plugs, you can send 'em my way; i can always use more nice eyepi... uhh, err, "dustplugs".

Haha.. The seller knows who he is, and I'll leave it to his decision whether to out himself on here or not
Very generous indeed, and the luck part is "why me"?

Might just be that, based on the nature of the transaction & personal aspects therewith, this seller figured they'd be rightfully appreciated, received with gratitude, and honorably so. (not "outing" the gifter)
Looks like he was right, too.
Merry Christmas!

Great story and nice to know that there are still some really nice people in the world these days.
I have from time to time included a little something extra in sales, but usually they were little tokens or trinkets (Tape measures from when I went used to do trade shows.. Gimme stuff) but never something of such genuine value.
One day you should "Play it forward." I think that might give someone else the same thrill it gave you...
Nice story. Enjoy your new binoviewer system!

I completely agree in that when it comes to decide the fate of these eyepieces I will not make money off them. They should be donated in one way or another 'for the cause'. Now, let's just hope I don't conveniently forget I said this when that time comes
You guys will keep me on the up n' up though, right?

There are good people out there - nice story!
As for the 18mm Tak LE's, I think they are great Eps - alone or paired for BV. For a long time they were my reference standard eps for binoviewing in H-alpha. I have no familiarity with the Sterlings but the Taks are very nice indeed - and if not mistaken, probably worth more than the BV'er.

I'll tell ya, last night in my C8 the Taks beat the pants off my Sterlings. Not to sound typical, but The taks are "tack sharp" to the edge, darker background, and a more comfortable, wider feeling view than the Sterlings.
That was also about the most detail I've ever seen in Jupiter actually. In the lower band I could see that it wasn't a perfect line, but actually was breaking apart on the lower left side of the planet, and parts of the band appeared to be wrapping back around in a sideways U shape underneath the bottom band. Heh, sorry if that sounds confusing. I need to get into logging my views and perhaps even sketching.
Hard to explain, but fantastic views so far! The Denks are not even in the same league as my old KO binos..Far, far superior..

Last was was better seeing than usual, at least up here in Glendale, and I assume it must have been much the same in Lawndale.
Especially earlier in the evening.
A good night for first light.
