Sure with bigger scopes this isn't that big-a-deal, but in 40 years, never have been able to do this with a 60MM~!
The close approach of Jupiter no doubt paid a part.

Did you follow Ganymede's disc across the planet, or did it fade as it transited off the limb? If it transited against a darker cloud band, you may have seen it all the way across.

T&B glad to hear of the event. I've seen that with other moons and the 70mm but once they leave the shade of the darker limb its been impossible for me to ferret it out. The f15 sounds like a beauty is this a Carton or Unitron or? That IS a classic scope. Could you fill us in a little more? At anyrate sounds like a nice view.

@ Asbytec
There was good contrast between Ganymede and Clouds, yet would lose the Moon from time to time. The shadow would help to re-acquire it. Your Avatar closely resembles the scene as the Moon ended it's transit, albeit MUCH smaller in my scope ;-)

My bad. It is a Celestron (Vixen) C60 with TV 13MM Plossl. Once upon a time the scope had the Orange paint...
