A club half way across the country wants the base of my disassemble Coulter 13.1" dob. What is the cheapest, easiest way to ship this heavy mother?

most of the bases can be disassembled for shipping. This makes it easier to pack and more likely to arrive safely but not any cheaper to ship. Don T.

Might be easier and cheaper just to build one. Extremely basic design and construction!

I had a Coulter 10 (blue model). Is the base already apart?
Mine was glued, stapled, and painted-together particle board. NOT intended for disassembly. I would seriously recommend making precise tracings of each piece on cardboard or posterboard and send them instead. The mount should be made of 3/4" baltic birch plywood or other good ply with some lightening holes. It will be nicer, lighter, stronger, and more-easily made.

You can ship it "Parcel Post" from any U.S. Post Office (USPS) halfway across the country for around $27.00 ... check out the postage calculators at UPS (www.ups.com) Fedex (www.fedex.com) and the Post Office (www.usps.com) for the exact amount. I almost always send shipments from the Post Office ... cheaper, faster, safer and more convenient ... at least from my experiences.

It was. What difference does that make? I am only shipping the base.
