I haven't gotten to deep into astrophotography yet, only the telescope, the eyepiece, my hands and the cell phone. It's fun and sometimes the results are great but sometimes it gets frustrating. Well, I would like to see if anyone else has gone my way of just following around trying to be an astrophotographer. SEND ME YOUR PICTURES!!

I just made a mount for my cellphone Cell Phone Mount Thread , but have only used it once, so all Ive gotten with it so far is this pic of Jupiter: Probably one of my best so far
taken holding my phone up to the EP by hand.
Saturn and Titan also taken by hand. Cant wait for another shot at Saturn now that Im a little more experienced:
I must confess that these arent just point n shoot photos, but images stacked using on average 30 seconds of video.

Fun, I'll give it a shot if it clears up enough to take the scope out tonight.

@GpB311 and jerry32 - How do you perform registax with the camera videos? I tried using registax and it wouldn't show the video and when it finally did show the video it wouldn't select alignpoint? Am I doing something wrong?

i really have not tried video. this is a single shot i was able to get by putting my phone to the eyepiece. Mabe try converting video to AVI. not sure what is the original fomat of a cell video.

I have to convert mine to avi either from mp4 or 3gp. I use the Pazera free converters you can download online. I also usually check the box to not convert the audio stream since you wont need it.
Sometimes I also use a program called VirtualDubMOD. It allows you to open a video and then save it as a series of images. My 25 second Jupiter video was sliced into like 600 images and then I aligned and stacked those.

Hiya everyone, I have been browsing through the CN forum for a while now but just recently created my account. I'm currently looking to obtain a telescope to take my very own pictures from the night sky, attached you will find my only cellphone picture, which started my quest, taken from the moon in our local observatory through a 9" f/11 refractor, made in 1880 and which used to belong to Désiré Van Monckhoven(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D%C3%A9sir%C3%A9_van_Monckhoven). It's far from the most beautiful amongst your previously uploaded pictures, but I hope you will enjoy.

Hey guys....I wonder if we could convince the Forum Admins to maybe make this a Main Topic thread under Astrophotograohy and Sketching instead of a sub-topic. There seems to be a lot of interest in this particular type AP. After all, we already have DSLR, CCD, Film, Etc....why not??? Just a thought...

I agree. It's an excellent way to get people introduced to digital imaging. I'm still blown away by the res on my iPhone5. My Dbk is better but this cam on my phone is amazing. Anyway I think it'd be a good thing for the forum and overall healthy for cloudy nights.

Ive posted this one a couple times before, and it certainly leaves something to be desired, but Ive always liked the contrast in size it shows between the Moon and Jupiter:
Im still waiting for another conjunction I can observe in order to try and get a better shot.

Here is one I took of the moon with my IPhone4. It is a stacked video processed with Registax6. I used a 9mm Orion Expanse eyepiece + 2x Barlow. This was the first time I used Registax. I have since moved on to taking videos with my Canon t3i but have yet to get a Jupiter as clear as the one posted earlier in this thread by gpb311. Great job gpb, it looks like you have mastered Registax.
