One year later...

This morning I was looking at my sketches of Jupiter from when I started sketching last December through the recent one I did. I thought it was neat to compare and contrast my first sketch (r), observed through my 6" f/8, with my most recent one (l), observed through my 72mm refractor. Thanks to all of you who gave me tips, help, etc, here on CN. Not only have I bettered my sketching, but I have also become a better observer and have learned a lot about our planets.

Ed D

Ed.

You were more talented a year ago than today, I prefer your first sketch .... Nah, I'm joking. Your latest sketch is very very nice and we can see your progress over time. Coloration surely add more to a sketch.

Andre.

Smoother more refined with luminosity that's the difference. One thing you want to do is create a cropped area around it in photo editing, medicine dropper the black border then magic wand the white around the black drawn around the planet and create a thick black border crop all around.

You do nice stuff Ed.

Pete

What I love the most about sketching is that it makes one a better observer in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, there are many great observers out there who don't sketch. But sketching seems to make the object more personal.

Wonderful sketches!

Jason

Hi Ed,

Both sketches are great, but I think Pete's comment on luminosity says it all. Your second sketch seems to "glow".
