The Maplin site shows a mini powerline kit - could this be used to control my LX200 in obsy at 100ft away in house The same house mains serves the obsy too so they are already 'connected' TIA

The kit you mention is for a network interface which is not directly compatible with either RS232 or USB which are used on the LX200, the USB using an adapter to convert it to RS232, so the short answer is no.
The long answer is a different story. If you had a computer in your obsy, this kit would allow a connection between it and one in the house. Using the computer in the house, you could control the computer in the obsy which could then control the scope. Getting the two computers configured properly for this application is not just a simple plug in the cables and it works, but it is possible.

Thanks - yes I did intend a PC/laptop in both house and obsy on same powerline so looks promising
