Anyone think AP might have a go at producing a high quality version of these convertible mounts?
At a more consumer level Celestron have been eerily quiet recently too, makes me wonder what they have in store.

I think it was said that making a mount smaller than the Mach1 to the required tolerances would be as expensive (or more expensive) than making the Mach1.
Is there a market for a $7000 Alt-Az mount?

Well, since Celestron is owned lock, stock & barrel by Synta, why would Synta need to make another one under a different badge?

So Synta owns Celestron, Skywatcher, Orion....anyone else?
Interesting I didn't know that.
I'd say there is a market for an AP engineered one, but I base that on the success track the star are having with their ALTAZ and its not convertible.
Depends on its implementation of course but I think AP would do something pretty special.

I think you should post in the AP Yahoo group and suggest that to Roland

I fully expect to see an Alt/Az CGEM if the Alt/Az Atlas is successful.

If that were the case, then there would be no CGEM mount. Why do car manufacturers feel the need to make the same car with different brand badges on them?
