This is the only set I have. Just wondering if anyone knows the history of why the letters are gold?

I have a set or two with the gold letters and have never seen anything about why they are gold. I know they are newer than most and hail from the 1970s / 80s but that is all...

no no i thing they are much older like the 50's myself. the reason i say that is all mine came with the older 50's unitrons i had. john

I have a gold set of three (gold) that came as part of the original package of a mid to late 1960s model 114. I also have several of the white lettered ones that are of the same era, incl. a 7 mm that I ordered in 1967.

I really believe the white paint just yellowed...bad batch of paint likely. Mike

well, checking with the expert at Unitron no knowledge is available of why they are gold lettered. so now we have to decide if one of the above comments apply.

I was also under the impression that the gold lettered ones were earlier but I'm certainly no Unitron expert.

If they are earlier then here's one that seems odd. Gold lettering and italic Unitron. When was it they went from straight lettering to italic?

Non-italic ones, I also was under the impression the gold lettered ones are older.

I like that 4mm. I bet that is fun to look through :-) I have some eyepieces with little peepholes like that. Thank heaven for Nagler eyepieces on cold nights when we all would have our eyelashes frozen to the eyepiece.
