To any Brits over in the states that started their interest in astronomy as many of us here did and followed his programmes Sir Patrick died earlier today.
Apologies if this is the incorrect area could not see anywhere more appropriate.

A great loss to popular astronomy, he will be sadly missed by many.
An inspiration to so many of us he was hugely respected and admired. I had the privelege of meeting him twice, he was a true gentleman of the old school, generous and willing to talk astronomy to anyone be they expert or rank novice.
God bless Patrick and may angels speed your journey.

A Very sad day , may he rest in peace amongst the stars he loved so much.
An inspiration to millions of us and the man who planted the seeds that got me into the wonderful world of astronomy all those years ago.
Irreplaceable.

A huge loss - a remarkable life and even more remarkable influence on stargazers over many decades.

To say I am devastated and in mourning is an understatement. I think that without Patrick there would have been no astronomy for me.

Oh no, I'll dearly miss him. My first "real" astronomy book was "A Picture History of Astronomy". I still have it, though it is thoroughly worn out.

No mater how you feel about Sir Patric Caldwell Moore, we all must say that a great voice for amateur astronomy has passed. I have many of Sir Patricks books on my shelf and will miss his influence. God speed Sir Patrick, we will miss you.

Heard this on the radio this morning. Sad indeed. One of my first ever books was a pocket observers guide written in his unique pithy style. I can also remember picking up a second hand copy of his book "The Amateur Astronomer" and finding that someone had pressed cornflowers in it! I can trace my love of visual observation to reading about his experiences.

It is truely sad for all those who found him a big part of their interest in astronomy. What I find fitting though is that seeing as he was an avid observer of the Moon he died as we head into the very thin phase of a waning Moon. To me that seems appropriate.

Right now, the BBC weather forecast shows a little moon to signify clear skies over London tonight.
Seems appropriate.

I trace my my four decades of interest in this hobby, dozens of books and telescopes, and countless hours of enjoyment at the eyepiece to an unassuming little pocket-sized book I purchased at my 4th-grade book fair.
Thank you, Sir Patrick Moore.
