It's amazing and inspiring! Congratulations JWalk!

his results show what we all are after - good equipment (high quality of all the gear), great sky conditions (and mainly(!) frequent clear skies), decent post processing all brings perfect results.

I can try as hard as I can and still have one usable night of clear skies per Month (especially now in Winter we have clouds ever 3 months every night in row (my record is over 50 nights of waiting for some clear sky while in the meantime I build couple of setups that I am even unable to test not talking about serious imaging)).

congratulations! the images are really impressive. Dreaming one day I could move to a better place to do this nice hobby!

That's a great story!

I second to Konihlav above. At the moment I have crabby equipment, sky condition is under any possible standard, at 65N we have practically permanent cloud cover at winter and at summer we have no darkness. I'm trying to save what ever I can with processing.

Walker's story is inspiring, great results just in four years! Maybe, if one is good in something else, like golf, one easily realize, how much one has to be ready to learn to be good at something else, like astronomical photography in this case. That's a good starting point.

I have been asked (too?) many times instructions to start this "hobby" by saying "I have 50K $ to spend and I want to take best space pictures ever" They feel usually offended, when I instruct them to buy a tripod, short FL lens and the DSLR to learn first some basic stuff, like calibration, processing etc.

Thanks guys and thanks Mike for posting it up. I really enjoy my golf and really enjoy AP! I didn't get to do much imaging through year. NMSkies was a great alternative to trying to buy a spot of land and do it myself. Plus I've met so many nice new people.

Who takes care of his friends???? LOL Just sucks he's 100 times better than me at golf, and with all his natural processing ability he shows me up there too! At least he helps me with my imaging, golf, there's no helping that part of my life...
Jimmy does give the best advice I know to anyone wanting to improve their game..

"practice short game more"

Don Goldman added a great golf comparison in a presentation a few years back. All images have issues and just like golf, it's how you get out of trouble that makes all the difference, or something close to that.

Congrats Jimmy, great write-up and very nice images! I have stayed at Spanish Bay in before and loved it - even better with good wifi and remote imaging!

Maybe you can make it to AIC next year! I know you had to work during AIC2012.

Kindest Regards,

Wait . . . JWalk is a professional golfer? And John Davis created Jimmy Neutron? Hey, I thought you guys were only famous around here!

Kudos for not letting this hobby become detrimental to your early morning round scoring average.

Good luck with the upcoming season!

Thanks for sharing this Mike and thank you Jimmy for allowing a newspaper do a story about you and the AP you do.

Great article and nice work, JWalk!

Do you think they meant Horsehead Nebula, rather than Horseshoe Nebula, though?

Well, thanks to Michael, both JWalk and Neutronman have been 'outed' to the general public. Mr. Moderator, you now need to keep the paparazzi at bay! :>) Just goes to show, gifted people who excel at something, are often gifted at more than that one thing. Given that nature, if they're not good at something they try, they'll likely leave it alone. Congratulations Jimmy!
