I am thinking of picking up the 9 myself. I already have the 14 and the 20 along with the 30N2 82. The 9 would replace my ES 8.8 82. The only question is where to buy it. Astronomics has the CN discount. Agena has free shipping plus they throw in a plastic bolt case. Decisions, decisions.

I'd been thinking about the 11mm 82 but no one has shown it in stock in months. So now, I'm thinking this one sometime in January. Too much for an 8" Orion Dob? I've been getting great views of Jupiter with the 5mm stratus so I'm thinking this would work pretty well to fill the gap.

Or should I save it for a 16" LightBridge?? Ah, decisions!!

The ES100 9mm is nice... Barlows well too (GSO 2x ED barlow) and works well with only the bottom element of that barlow as well, giving you ~6mm (1.5x).

Now that my ES 30mm 82º Series has been delivered I know what a BIG eyepieces looks like!!!!!!!

Garsh, Mike... i don't wanna say that 30mm EP is big... but with its cap on it could double as an equipment table at your observing site.

I have the Zhumell version of the GSO Barlow. I should just screw that into my 14 ES which would give me about the same mag and field as the 9. I have done that before with the 14.

I think you could do that with very good results. But we always end up wanting more EPs rather than less and also we always second guess whether the barlowed views are "good enough" compared to non-barlowed. In my case, with the ES100 9mm, there isn't a 5mm yet, so I don't mind barlowing it to 6 or 4.5mm where my astigmatism doesn't show up.

I have to OK to purchase the 9mm 100. Looks like it will be a nice Christmas this year. My wife also got tickets today for Fleetwood Mac for their April show at Mohegan Sun.

Indeed. Start saving for the 25mm ES100.

I had a chance to trade my 10mm XW for a 9mm ES 100. I was going to do it, but after some hard thought, I passed.
I can only use the 9mm ES 100 with an extension tube! I have to have it sitting 1/2" out of my focuser, which is already racked all of the way out, plus I just find going from 100° back to 70° really weird. I also found the 10mm XW slightly sharper overall.

If I planned on ES 100's, I would have to drop my entire EP collection and get the 20mm and 14mm and more than likely the 30mm ES N2 82. More of a hassle really, so I passed. Some like to mix diff eyepieces. EG: 100°, 60°, 70°, 50°, etc. I would have to get all three and the 30mm 82 to keep things uniform!

So I am sticking with my XW's and Vixen LVW's for now !!!!
Who knows? Maybe by next year I'll have the 100's for a different viewing experience!

Cheers,

FedEx dropped off my ES 9 100 today. My wife left it on my chair for me. Looks like I'll have to rearrange my eyepiece case again. Hope to first light with it in two weeks.
