I already saw many fantastic sketches of Jupiter here on CN. Thanks for posting them all. I finally had a night with some acseptable seeing. I guess the combination of cold weather and a lot of heated houses around my garden isn't a winning combination I used gray pastels for this one.

Jeff,
your sketch is excellent! There a lot of features that can be seen. Were the galilean moons visible also?

Very nice smooth tones Jeff. I saw a similar CM last night and did a notated black n white sketch that I will maje a color rendering tomorrow. I like the - no pun intended - pastel shades. Of the dry mediums it most represents pastel chalky tones smoothed out.
Glad you got out. For me it was three weeks.

Jeff, you captured that very tiny darker oval following BA. That can be very difficult. Also, the way you captured that dark finger rolling over the GRS is spot on. And that white spot preceding is nicely done, it's easily seen as you show. Well done capturing a nice observation, despite the warm houses nearby.

Jef,
This is a wonderful sketch of Jupiter. Even without perfect seeing you captured all the essential features I was seeing the next night with a larger scope. I did not sketch the view but I would not have captured it as well as you did here. Wonderful work.

I like your digital renditions. GRS, hmmmm, same trouble as I've been having I see - very little by way of color....

The bigger one ain't difficult to spot, but it was only on the better moments of seeing that I could see his form (oval). Sometimes he grew a little triangular (got one with the other oval). There was only one brief moment of freezing seeing that I could see the little brother. Strange, because on photo he's much darker than his bigger brother.

So true. In images the contrast is so pushed it practicaly looks like a Galilean moon shadow. In the best moments where it briefly pops in 5-6 seeing or better it's unmistakably grey and not that dark at all. It's merely grey. It's things like this where despite ccd images bringing in impressive detail that nothing so far seems to duplicate the dynamic range of the human eye. To that end visual observing has its own stand alone rewards.
It isss a finicky bugger eh?

Very realistic interpretation of features, Jef! Aside from colors, I see a similar view with my 110mm on good nights. Beautifully rendered BA.

I too am plagued with Urban conditions and haven't had a clear night in over a month.
It's still a very good sketch. You captured some nice details in the SEB. And I'm glad that you have been getting some observing time in.
