I tried powering my iEQ45 from the regulated switching supply that I use for my ham radio gear, which runs at a nominal 13.8 volts. I got an: "R. A. error" message from the handset whenever anything requiring motion was selected.
A quick check revealed: iOptron AC power supply - 12.2 V - OK lead acid battery - 12.8 V - OK switching power supply - 14.0 V - error message
The manual list the power requirement as 11 ~ 15 V but that is not what I observe. If you get an error message you might check for over voltage as well as under voltage.
It doesn't appear that the mount is damaged and I'm relieved to find the simple source of the problem.
Clear Skies in NE Ohio tonight!

Just between you and me and the fence post, I don't run my ham rigs off switching supplies, either. Don't like 'em and their birdies and don't trust 'em. It's a good, old Astron linear power supply for moi.

I use a 13.8 volt pyramid power supply and have had no issues.

Rod The SEC 1223 I use got a good review from QST and I've never had a problem with birdies. I also have an old linear with enough copper in it to plumb a house. It makes a satisfying thunk when placed on the operating desk.
Brian I wonder if the .2 V makes a difference or the mounts vary, but not enough to do a thorough study.
