Tripod suggestion for my Garrett SS 10x50

Hello,

I need suggestions about buying a tripod for my binoculars, enough to take the 3 lb of the binocular but not too costly. For the adapter I've decided on the Garrett metal adapter.

I'd suggest Garrett's 3000 tripod/head; it's nice and tall (78") plus it's relatively inexpensive. The less expensive Orion HD-F2 tripod they offer is a bit short (69.5") for many users though it does provide a geared column.

If you plan to add a 15x70 or even larger bino some day, the 5000 combo would be a better bet with the extra capacity, geared center column and adjustable spreaders for greater rigidity.

Binocular viewing requires more height than many "photo" tripods can provide; check the specs carefully.

Does the Garrett 5000 work well? I am trying to decide on either a Orion paragon plus or the 5000. Since I have 15 x 70s and may want to move up I am thinking the 5000 is the way to go.

The 5000 is a great tripod for the money. Very stout, smooth motions. It would handle 15x70s without a second thought.

Thanks I can't handhold well enough. I also would like to get a 80 or 100 down the road. I keep learning as I go along. It looks like a nice mount and tripod on the site. I have a slik tripod for my small refractor and that works pretty good. The 5000 looks much beefier. Thanks again for your advice.

I would also advise using the 5000. It works wonderfully with the 15x70s. I use my GBT100s with it. Works wonderfully for those as well. Smooth action. Solid and sturdy. When I use on a grassy surface, damping time is a hair above a second with use for the 100s with the center section moderately cranked up. All controls are well placed and easy to operate in darkness.

Yep the 5000 if you intend getting a 80 or 100mm glass, other things to consider are the bogen manfrotto 028,056,045/6
Bhhphtoto also seek a Davis sanford which is very similar spec wise to the 5000, it's still cheaper I think

daniel h,

Thank you for your suggestion, but I am not willing to get any binoculars so far. The next binocular that I'd be getting is the 22x85 but for that to happen I need about 10 to 15 years to reach the full potential of my binoculars, they are that good.

So for now an economical and temporal option is acceptable.
