Hi. This is my morning sketch of the comet Linear from Provence. Just scanned. I approximate the mag to 8.0 +/- 0.3. The comet is very easy to catch with a large field eyepiece. I use my achromatic refractor Bresser with a 25 mm eyepiece. This nice little comet is approaching Dubhe, closest approach tomorrow morning ! The movement is quite speedy, similar to the previous one : Hergenrother.
Clear sky to you for the next night ! Michel

Thanks to you all, except the fact that you seemed all enoying with the clouds, this comet is easy to catch, the tail is much longer than those of Garradd or Hergenrother, maybe 15 to 20 minutes of arc with my refractor. Courage !

Michel: >maybe 15 to 20 minutes of arc with my refractor<
that`s a big number ! because at 168P I measured "only" a max. 7` tail.

Maybe I made a wrong estimation. But as far as I know, 7' is only the coma diameter ... In comparison here my oct. Hergenrother sketch
If the weather is good tomorrow morning I will made a more precise estimation.

Fantastic, Michel! Your observation is almost inspiring me to get up out of bed early tomorrow. Well, it's certainly inspiring me...if only I wasn't so lazy in the wee hours.
Seriously, you have a great observation here. Nice tail on this one.

No no, I confirm, this morning, despite poor weather conditions (moon and some light clouds) I had 15' for Linear's tail. While scaning my sketch, I push the contrast slightly... too much...

Hi Laurent Thank you, It's nice to meet you here ! The frist time I saw this little comet was... during the 43e RAGBR near Rians, decembre the 8th. I had no optical instrument with me and I push a guy with a nice small Dobson mount to catch Lienar before the comet set. I don't remember who it was. That was a poor vision, 'cause the comet was very low on the northern horizon. My sketch was very basic, just a small circle cloud... I don't share. Anyway, the comet visibility is not ended. You can try early evening before the moon rise, for a week or so. Friendly yours Michel
