Hello and Merry Christmas! Santa came early and delivered my Mallincan Extreme, so last night I thought I would give it a go. I got it up and running okay and looked at M42 and it was great. Then I went to Jupiter, and I could see it and its moons however jupiter was completely washed out and white. I messed with a few settings, dropped the shutter speed down but it didnt seem to make a difference. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

When you say 'washed out', do you mean overexposed, or simply lacking crisp detail? In either case, you might improve things by expanding the image scale, if this try was done at prime focus. Planets are tiny things, which benefit from amplification via Barlowing, afocal or eyepiece projection techniques.

Jupiter's an extremely bright object and you're using an ultra sensitive cam like the Xtreme so you've got to tame that sensitivity with very brief exposures and a long focal length to get some image scale on the planet. Good luck

With your telescope you should be using shutter speeds of 1/6000 or faster. If you can see the moons of Jupiter you are overexposing the planet.
Lunar and Planetary are similar to daytime viewing. You can safely set up your equipment during the day and experiment with the settings.
Make sure Sens Up is off. Find a target like a wooden utility pole. Look carefully at the grain of the wood as you try various settings especially APC.

Hey Chris,
I was in same boat as you on starting out and Jupiter. There is great help in here and I would highly recommend the below site and tutorial that I just found. It really opened my understanding of the camera, funtcions and settings in easy to understand terms... If you click on that page and scroll about 1/2 way down will see this "A Mallincam VSS Tutorial.pdf", by psu_13 dated 4-8-11.. Is a very very good primer..
