Thought I would post a few images I got with our club equipment: C14 @ F3.3 and Mallincam Xtreme with a IDAS LPS filter. All images were unguided and were 3:30 minute exposures. First is M1.

Hi Mark: I am using the Mallincam MCV-1. The stills were captured from a DVD I recorded as the images were captured.

Thanks everyone for your comments and have a Merry Christmas. Devon, Thor's Helmut is a tough but it did show itself in 5 seconds so I could frame it. Using a C14 didn't hurt either. My favorite activity with the Mallincam is trying it on objects that are challenging or that I have never observed. During a single night I like to try every object showing on the chart (SkyAtlas2000). There are some surprises awaiting you approaching it in this manner- similar to the way I used to observe visually. I had observed NGC 2359 visually with a 16" while sweeping casually one night years ago.

GREAT shots! I am amazed that you got such a great image of Thor's Helment from Canada. The first time I ever saw it was from the Winter Star Party with a 20-in newt and a filter. The last time I saw it was from the South Carolina coast about 4 years ago with a small scope and image intensifier while on Winter vacation.

There is no replacement for displacement. I love the field of view and focal ratio of those images.

Dwight,
Very nice, and let's not forget this was with almost a full moon! Your amp glow is non existent! I am assuming you post processed this out? Can you give us some pointers how you went about doing that?
Thanks
Al

Hi Al: No magic here. These were taken during the dark of the moon. I cropped out most of the amp glow although it wasn't excessive thanks to subzero (C) temperatures. Recording the session on DVD and grabbing frames off of that also seems to reduce amp glow.
