New guy with a question new
      #5584242 - 12/22/12 03:05 PM

Greetings! A new guy to the forums with a question about a Meade SCT I just bought. I had a Bushnell NorthStar 78-8831 for many years but found a Meade 2080/LX6 for sale last weekend and HAD to buy it. It has the equatorial wedge mount and the LX6 Power Panel. Everything seems to be in good working condition and the optics look great. There is a pretty good learning curve on this unit compared to my old Bushnell! My question is on the handheld controller, there are a set of DRS buttons (Init-Mode-Set) that I have no idea of what their functions are. I have the manuals for the unit but the section that should explain the buttons is a trouble shooting section instead.

Does someone have any info that explains what they do and how to use them correctly?

Thanks for any help, I couldn't find anything on the Meade website.

You might also repost this down in the Meade forum . . . might be some folks there who own one of these older models.

Hi Fuzzyguy, thanks for the link. It is the same material that I have here. Seems the area that should tell about the three buttons were deleted for some strange reason.

Merry Christmas!

Does the display panel light up and show anything. If it does, then you have the digital setting circles. (Should be a box attached to the fork that connects to the base with a Din cable.) If you don't have any display, then you may not have the DRS system installed. Not all LX-6's came with this option.
If you have it, you can get the manual for the DRS at the LX 5/6 Yahoo user group.

Hi Brian, Yes, the display does light up and will display numbers and will change slowly as the RA changes. It has the encoder box in the fork and is connected to both the RA and Dec. encoders. Also has the motor on the Dec. adjustment. I just signed up for the Yahoo group, THANKS for the info! I really look forward to learning the proper operation of this unit!!!!!
