The downloads work ONLY when I am connected to the internet. I am a print subscriber. Can somebody post instructions is SLOW and CLEAR English on how to do this?? Thanks..... Really stupid system, IMHO. You are right Apple management of files on the IPAD is stupid. At home with 100 mbps Internet it is a non-issue. Traveling in rural Mexico and California has been a nightmare with the IPAD. I guess we are lucky that our home county has fiber optics lines for most of the residents, so I never noticed the issue at home. I have to use the computer since I use Android, and they don't have Android software yet. BTW....clear instructions would still be welcomed. Somehow I managed together the Sky and Telescope site to accept my subscription. Then my daughter managed to get the issue downloaded. I can read that on any device that has an ereader, laptop, my Nexus 7, etc. It may be that the PDF version is only available to digital subscribers. The confirmation email I got from S&T when I subscribed to the print edition said that I got free access to the digital edition also. As I recall, it takes S & T subscription processing 7 to 8 weeks until you get the first issue. S & T is quite slow to respond... I took my iPhone to work on a faster internet connection and I was able to download the entire issue.
