iOptron ZEQ25GT In a website in China, there appears this new iOptron ZEQ25GT equatorial mount able to operate in very low latitude and at the equator. As stated: Maximum loading = 11.4 kg, Self weight = 5.3 kg http://bbs.astron.ac.cn/thread-88682-1-1.html

I looks like iOptron is starting to make some noise in the mount department... I wonder if that 11 and a half pound mount weight includes the counter weight?

Jim. The original poster wrote the mount is rated at 11.4 kg, not in pounds.. conversion is 25lbs. cheers. Graham.

"Self weight = 5.3 kg" This is approximatly 11.6 lbs, (if my head match is correct), and this I am interpreting as the weight of the mount?
Of course at my age, figuring numbers in my head can be dangerous!

I wonder when we will see info on the mount on the English iOptron site. I came across this mount because it was shown as a prize in the SkyNews magazine. It shows the value of the prize as $799.

Wow, that's quite the slick looking mount. Looks pretty light for the payload too.
Now the waiting...

I don't think so - although it's a different arrangement to the usual GEM, it's not equivalent to a fork mount, even single arm. All photographs I've seen show it pointing North, but when it's visualised pointing South, mount clashes are definitely possible if too far on the 'wrong' side of the meridian.
I wonder if the quoted mount weight of 4.7 Kg includes the tripod - if so it's one heck of a good travel mount!
Aach! added later. I've just properly read the specs, and the tripod alone weighs 5 Kg. Not such a good airline mount after all. But still very light for the payload.
Peter.
