Good Deal on an ETX125 EC with autostar 497?

Hi guys, haven't posted in a while. I have been posting back and forth with a guy on craigs list that has an ETX125EC, hard case autostar 497. Pics look good but it does not have a tripod. I have him talked down to $270. Does this sound reasonable to you?
Also can any tripod be used or only the #884 from meade?

I would think without the tripod you could get it cheaper. I got a ETX90 w/tripod for a buddy for $75
The 884 tripod is a good one that would serve well, though they are not cheap.

If the scope is in good working condition ... and it does have the very expensive hard case ... the price sounds good to me. If you do decide to buy it ... you can get a very sturdy ... inexpensive (under $50) ... easy to adapt CST/Berger (Bosch) contractor tripod from Amazon:

The "black" tripods usually cost a couple of dollars more. All you need is a small piece of 1/2" pine ... cut to size ... and holes to match the attachment bolt holes under the ETX base. I've used this tripod to replace the flimsy tripods on several small GOTO mounts ... big improvement!

$270 for a 125 is very good provided its functional and has good glass, etc. Even more so if it has the UHTC lenses!! Check ebay prices on unmounted ETX125 and you'll see they can be pricey. You can't compare pricing of a 125 to a 90mm- quite a difference between the two.

A 125 OTA is worth $225-250, the Autostar $75. The mount $85-150 (plastic to aluminum). Meade 887 ETX to standard wedge adapters are cheap, I have a couple spares. PM me if interested.
