Thanks for that link Jim. One of the editions goes back to 1971. Will have to check old S&T adds on that one.

I don't know. Mine is by Sky Pub, Cambridge U. Press, *and* Treugesell-Verlag, copyright 1983, second printing 1988. No mention of 1978 or 1984. Are you looking at the right one? By Hans Vehrenberg?

This is a really good book. Mine is the English Edition of the first printing; 1967. Well used.

Cheers,

Jerry

Did you get this used off of Amazon or similar? What are your impressions? Been curious for a long time. Thanks

Eric

Forgive my offering a response to a question not directed to me, but...
This is a first-rate book IMO. Photos of a lot of DSOs done by Veherenberg, all at the same scale for comparison purposes. A lot of supplementary photos and info, as well, plus a long commentary by the author. It's a big hardcover with ultra-high quality glossy paper. A really wonderful book, and well worth having. Too bad it's out of print.

Absolutely agree! This is a wonderful book to have in your collection. I was fortunate to get a copy that is in very nice condition! Nice touch, is the sky charts inside the front and back covers.

I used to own this book and must have given it away some years ago. Looking now there are two editions, 1978 by Sky Publishing and 1984 by Cambridge University Press.

My copy is 1983 (4th edition) by Sky Publishing.

Yes I got it used from a Amazon vendor. I bought it after reading comments in this forum by Rick, Carol, and others! The book was in very good condition except it appears to have been used at the scope, and some of pages appear slightly warped as you would see due to moisture. You can kinda feel it more than see it. I guess this is a common issue buying used observing books. However, the price was $7

Okay its not Christmas anymore but I was in HPB's today looking in the Astronomy section. I decided to get another 3 volume set of Burnham's Celestial Handbook. I had these at one time but have no idea what happened to them. These were the 1977/78 versions. I know there are mixed feelings on these but the price was good

I got Hubble's Universe -- the latest book by Terrance Dickinson. Big, gorgeous book! Haven't begun reading it yet, though.

Mixed feelings or not; they are classics, and deserve a place in every astronomy library!
