Hi all and a Happy New Year!
First Jupiter observations & sketches from this year: NPC & SPC - no details visible, only a grey to dark-grey gradation toward the poles; NTB - brown redish in color, no texture; NEB - brown-reddish with some texture in steady seeing; EZ - white, some dark barges are visible attached to NEB; SEB - brown-reddish, SEB present texture, the southern(preceding GRS) part seems more red then the northern part, SEB following GRS part it's more grey-reddish and the wake is visible as light grey; GRS - is pale orange; STB - very dark and proeminent, almost touch the GRS; Oval BA - very hard to spot, only in moments of good seeing was visibile

Comet LINEAR C/2012 K5 from my location was difficult to saw, mainly due to light pollution and hazy skies at the observation date. I estimated at ~10 mag., DC=2 and 4'-5' in diameter, no tail visible.
All observations are made with a 90mm f/10 refractor.

Hi
Very nice sketches. You represented the comet exactly he same I can see from my backyard. Its far from some other observers where they can see a tail like Christian and Michel.

Thanks! Yes indeed, beeing a small instrument I'd say this are opposite sketches to those made with larger instruments.

Fine sketches!
ps I know you are a "fan" of a Neodymium-filter for planetary use. I bought also one, but can't see any improvement on Jupiter with my 12" dobson

Welcome back, Catlin. You did very well with Jupiter in your 3.5". And to capture LINEAR is cool. I missed it, but then again MCTs aren't exactly "comet catchers."
Someone was saying this one would brighten significantly. I mean daytime bright. True?

Hi Norme,
That potential daytime visible comet is for the end of this year. The comet is C/2012S1(ISON). I'll believe it when I see it. Check out the magnitude guesses on this well known Comet site. http://www.aerith.net/comet/catalog/2012S1/2012S1.html

Thanks all!
Jef, what I found with M&S filter is that the improvment is subtle, but is there, especially in the reds and blues. I say to give another try.
Norme, as Frank said comet ISON is the potential a daytime comet, we'll see in autumn. C/2012 K5 is not the one, but even with your MCT you'll see it.
