Does anyone know if D&G Optical is still in business? I tried emailing, but didn't get a reply. I tried calling the number listed on the website and Verizon is stating that the number has been disconnected.

As far as I know they are. I just received my 5"f12 lens from them around the end of Oct. They may close around the holidays and haven't reopened yet. If you're thinking of ordering a 5 or 6 inch lens expect a wait. Mine took two years but it was worth it, a beautiful lens.

Same here...just called and got Barry on the answering machine. Wished him a Happy New Year. Check the # again; it IS the Holiday so he may be on vacation. I just started back to work late this week myself.

I bought a backplate from Barry a couple of months back so they're definitely in business. However, if you want to buy a refractor from them, it may be better to buy used on Astromart or CN classifieds. You'll save both time and money.

PGA if you are local you can always stop by and check out my D&G6"F12 so you can see and test out first hand, the quality of these scopes. Bob

Hi Bob, I'm actually in Los Angeles, but thanks for the offer. It's very kind of you. I've actually looked through a 5" F12 before and I was amazed that I was actually looking through an Achro. Yes.. I saw color, but the views were very crisp. It's very hard to describe, but I wanted to look into them more.

It's always fascinating to note that whenever Barry Griener/D&G is out of contact for a short time a collective panic goes through the refractor and astronomy community.

I've always thought it would be great to have a 5 or 6 inch F12-15 D&G, but the mounts obviously have to be substantial. I can see why though, that there is a market and a fascination for these apparently fine scopes. A refractor lover can't help but be intrigued by such classic beauties!

Even though I know Barry has more work than he can handle right now I still can't help myself checking the limited run page for updates!
I think I would go for it whatever size or focal length he chose to do for a limited run and despite the inevitable long wait time...
