You might see this on licence plates but right now, for astrophotographers, it's far from the truth. Since Oct 01 to today, Jan 05, 2013 we have been overcast. Pretty soon the warranties on the stuff I bought last year will expire and I haven't had any clear skies to try it out! Bummer!
I'm getting tired of trying out my brand new Orion Nautilus filter wheel with my ATIK CCD camera, in the basement a dozen or so times! Southern Vancouver Island is supposed to be the banana belt of Canada. I think Inuvik has had better weather than down here. There.....I feel better already. (Not really)

Hi Randall, I feel your pain a couple degrees south of you. I was fortunate to get one night since mid October. In the past I've made trips to Eastern Washington to take advantage of the rain shadow that the Cascades provides, but this year it just hasn't materialized.
I work outside much of the time wich just adds insult to injury when it's clear all day and clouds over by dark...

I'm with you RandallK. Our west coast is not the ideal location for one who wishes to spend coin on this hobby. I WAS able to get this one the other night tho...from Abbotsford

We had a nice evening last week, tried out the new (to us) toa-130 for the first time. I think Randall is forgetting the 3 nice evenings since oct 1. We have tested new (to us) equipment all 3 times it's been clear the last 3 months.
Not to worry though, we get 2 months of brilliant clear mid summer. Ofc, it doesn't get fully dark for 6 weeks of that stretch.

The price you pay to live in Lotus Land. It may get cold here in Alberta but all those mountains give me a nice rain shadow.

Adacas, You must have caught that the same night I got out! The only clear night in months! I'm just across the line about 12 miles south of McDonald Park.

You must be in Peaceful Valley. The only clear night in months, and it was a chilly one!

Adacas, Yes you have the area right, However Peaceful Valley and Paradise Valley are developments in Columbia Valley, all part of Kendall township. Do you have property in one of the recreational clubs in the area?

I'm a little north of you in the Central Interior and it hasn't been much better here. Precious few clear nights and when they happen the seeing is marginal or we're hit by ice fog after a few hours. ...Keith

I have been waiting for some clearing to take place as well.
The last really great night were on the evenings of Oct 8th, when some out of town friends came through for some cycling in Squamish and Pemberton. After a day of cycling, some food and beer to relax. The scope was a big hit among friends who'd never looked before.
There have been some sucker holes for a brief time some evenings and mornings but just enough to make me realize how out of practice I am with my equipment
Some nights were clear enough for a Meetup at Queen Elizabeth Park in Vancouver but the cold winds chased us off after just two hours.

Don't astro equipment warranties only count days with clear skies?

Your weather sounds much like ours here in Portland. My last actual image was made in October.
