There's a Great Future in Plastics... new
      #5607022 - 01/05/13 05:49 PM

In a post some time ago I mentioned that I was having problems always fiddling around with the wing-nuts on the forks of the altaz mount on my old 60mm refactor when slewing around the sky.
Several folks suggested adding weights to counter-balance the heavier new 1.25" hybrid diagonal and eyepieces, but with different weight EPs there was still some fiddling needed. I've found another solution...

After getting my dob and noticing that it uses PTFE (aka Teflon) on the moving surfaces, I bought some PTFE washers and put them on both sides of the forks (wing-nut, washer, fork, washer, scope), four washers in all.
They work great. I can tighten to maintain position with even my heaviest EP, and have smooth motion when following an object as it moves out of the field of view.

Just wanted to share....

I am very disappointed the solution did not involve duct tape.

I am very disappointed the solution did not involve Anne Bancroft

Forget Bancroft! I was supposed to have din din with Jessica Biel for my birthday tomorrow night and she canceled.

Neither Teflon nor duct tape can cure a broken heart.

On a lighter note, thanks for the sharing the solution!

I talked to Justin earlier today, he said he was going over there with something in a box, as a present. That may explain it.

Now, that's just more salt on the wound!

I tried the box thing with a girlfriend and she just laughed hysterically. Man, what's a guy gonna do.

I'm thinking with the box hysterical laughter us a very good response, without the box a very bad response.
