Orion StarShoot 3MP Planetary Imager or Celestron new
      #5605987 - 01/05/13 03:51 AM

I just won a certificate to get one these Orion StarShoot 3MP Planetary Imager in a drawing tonight but can also opt for the Celestron version of this which is the NexImage 5 Solar System Imager. I read the Celestron unit doesn't come with windows 7 drivers /software, and am reading its a real pain to get them installed.
Does anyone know "first hand" if this is true? Ive seen on the web supposedly how to download the drivers from the Celestron site, but it definitely looks flaky.
I have a friend who is involved with astrophotography cameras and the weak link seems to be in installing the drivers even with his cameras, which as of lately, has really turned me off to all of this. He sells them, and cant even get his software to run on his PC, so this is pretty discouraging.
For people that know, would you think I'd better off just going with the Orion model?
I don't dabble in astrophotography at all except for with my digital camera attached to the back of my MaxView 40 eyepieces, and I know first impressions can make or break an interest in something new.
Any thoughts on this from someone just curious about having fun with the planets, moon and the sun?
It doesn't mater to me that one is worth more than the other since it was a freebee anyways.

Thanks for any inputs on this...

..Ralph

The Neximage 5 drivers and included software install and run without error on my Win 7 64bit.

On my Win 8 64 bit also.

He has a flaky Win 7 box most likely

The Neximage 5 is a rebranded Image Source DMK72. Although the software and drivers that shipped with it from Celestron were operating fine, today I downloaded updated drivers and firmware from Image Source for the DMK72 and updated the Neximage 5 with these. No issues doing this in Win 8.
