 i was sick for sometime an now better,so ill be reporting here on my observations of mercury an venus in daylight in a week or so.mercury is still to close to the sun an venus is visible but rapidly appraoching the sun an by end of january, it too will be in the suns glare.ive recored my views since the seventies an its been very rewarding.clear skies guys.at least an 8inch scope for mercury an venus just about any size.

ill be using a c-8 which is ideal for finding venus,an an 8x50mm finder is essential to spot venus which is easy,but mercury can rarely be seen in finder so we must be polar aligned which i do in the daytime.i set up night before roughly on polaris then in daytime i align on the sun,moving the mount around until the suns declination is the same as the almanac.with a level tripod.thats it.any help i can be just ask.

i then mark the ground where the tripod legs sit an its permanent to within a 1/2 degree or less.when i ready to observe i put the legs back at the marks .http://astropixels.com/ephemeris/sun/sun2013.html
above internet gives you all the positions of the sun an planets.

And, seriously, many of us will be waiting with bated breath... espeically those like me, who haven't had the chance to drag their own scopes out for a while!

hi ed,well its real fun observing in daylite an a nice change.in fact when jupiter is on opposite side of the sun in the sky,the views are awesome in daylite.an mercury an venus dead overhead makes them much crisper and sharper.thx for responding.an i see your from new york,i was origianly from newjersey.hope to hear from you again.
