Hi everyone, I'm thinking to pick up the Vixen polarie. does anyone have experience using this? I understand its limited weight capacity but the portability factor is very appealing for me as i need to hike a bit for my viewing site. Would you be able for say 1 min tracking with 85 mm lens without polarscope?

That should work fine, if you carefully sight through the peephole at Polaris.

Yes you can. I have been able to do more than 5 min at 85mm using the polarscope.

But what about without the polar scope? That is what the OP wants to know.

The Polarie manual states that pinpoint stars can be held for a 1 min. exposure at the celestial equator at 85 mm focal length with a 2 degree polar alignment error (assuming a .001 mm camera pixel size). If you think you can get less than a 2 degree error using their default finder window then yes, you can.
